MED-EL: Architecting a Global Solution on Google Cloud Platform

About MED-EL:

MED-EL, a global leader in hearing loss solutions, offers both hardware and software products for medical professionals and patients. The AI department leverages GCP for developing and serving an application consumed by users around the globe.

The challenge

Help define a solid tech chain and architecture for a solution comprising mobile and web applications consumed by tens of thousands of users globally. This includes identifying and validating GCP and 3rd party solutions and ways to glue them together seamlessly to ease up development and debugging, as well allowing to develop and deliver top notch end-user experiences.

The solution

MED-EL engaged CLOUDPILOTS to validate and refine their initial concept, tech stack, and system architecture, collaborate on open challenges, and adapt the solution to meet growing development complexity and evolving user expectations. The first prototype emerged from a joint GCP development bootcamp, where CLOUDPILOTS and MED-EL co-defined the architecture. This collaboration also reduced technical overhead, enabling teams to focus more on user-centric innovation.

The result

The global expansion of the application reach and the related challenges were addressed and approaches to address possible bottlenecks were identified. The developers' environments were improved to allow working jointly on the same data and test easily in sandboxes.
